The 2002 Volvo S40 is a front-wheel-drive compact sedan from the first-generation S40/V40 range (P4 platform), built at the NedCar plant in Born, Netherlands, on a chassis co-developed with Mitsubishi. In the US market the 2002 S40 was offered only as a 4-door sedan powered by a 1.9L turbocharged inline-4 (B4194T) rated at 160 net horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, driving through a 5-speed automatic. It was a carryover year within the facelifted first generation, which had been restyled for the 2001 model year before the second-generation S40 arrived in 2004.
