1998 Mercury Sable “Stable”
About the 1996–1999 Mercury Sable
The third-generation Mercury Sable, sold for the 1996-1999 model years, was Mercury's version of the oval-era Ford Taurus redesign, built on the same front-drive DN101 platform with its own front and rear styling. Two 3.0 liter V6 engines were offered: the pushrod Vulcan rated at 145 horsepower and the DOHC 24-valve Duratec rated at 200 horsepower. The line ran from a base G sedan (1996-1997) through the volume GS and the better-equipped LS, with GS and LS also sold as wagons. A 1998 refresh brought new headlights and a grille with a centered Mercury emblem before the fourth-generation car replaced this design for 2000.
