As many of us are aware.....for some time now there has been challenges with the brakes and rotors on our X's. I read the other day the Ford finally recognized the fact and the 2005 Excursions apparently have larger rotors on them.

My question is this: will those larger rotors (and brakes) work on earlier models?

They to my knowledge Ford didn't upgrade the X they way they updated the Super Duty pick ups. The F-250-350 got bigger brakes, rotors, coil springs up front, tighter sterring, new steering box, stiffer frames, and minor dash overhaul. I will double check but i think the X is living on borrowed time still!!

The rotors might, I guess it depends how much larger they went. It would be bummer of the new SuperDuty wheels were larger to accomodate the rotor...that'd mean you'd need to upgrade your wheels on the X, too.

As far as the suspension goes, you would need to do some fabrication to make it work. The Excursions use leaf springs and a completely differnet mounting system than coil springs do. There would be a few things you'd have to relocate (possibly brake lines, shock mounts, steering assembly, etc. etc. etc.).

Nothing can't be done, it just wouldn't be a simple bolt-on job.

Thanks for the specs, birdman!!

FlagshipOne: The Excursions come with 16" wheels, so you'd need to go to a larger wheel size to be able to use the new '05 SuperDuty rotors. This is assuming the bolt pattern is still the same.

Bolt pattern is still 8X170 but they(Ford) changed the pitch or threads on the X and super dutys in 02.
I think ours pre 02 is 14mm by 1.5mm newer models have 14mm by 2mm lugs

It figures, It would be nice to have the bigger rotors on the ol Ex...but I hope that she stays around a bit more!! I love mine!! Id really like to have a newer one when I get this one paid for!!
Or better yet, I will get the Super Duty then!!

Having just put new wheels on my '04, and having the wrong lugs sent to me, I can attest that my '04 uses 14x1.5. They sent 14x2.0 with the wheels originally.
