I have the factory running boards on my 2000 X. I don't care for the winter road slop all over the top of the boards and then getting tracked inside. I've considered the Ford mud flaps to possibly reduce the amount of slop.

Hoping to get some other opinions/thoughts from you guys. What have others done?

Eric,
Welcome to the site, Don't use the Ford mud flaps! I 've installed them on my 2003 and they rub the front stock tires on turns. Even after shaving the front flaps down it still rubs the tire when turning. The rear flap are fine and help reduce road spray and trailer damage. I would suggest a husky floor mat to help collect the extra dirt. See the below links:

I've use the husky mats for just over a year and there great.

Cheers

I don't know if it would help, but get the chrome tube running boards, they look really nice on the excursion's.

What if you bought those heavy duty 1 inch thick mats that ford sales for the excursion, those things are heavy duty rubber, and have thick grooves for such things as mud and the stuff on your X.

I have the husky floor mats...2 in front, 1 in center, 1 in rear, and then the big mat in the cargo area. They are great.

The fronts have a nice little collection area for the snow as it melts after you track it in. Just make sure to empty them every now and then at the gas station. If you don't, it spills over a little bit like in this photo I took:

My carpet is in immaculate condition because of these mats. I bought these when I first purchased my X back in 2000.
