I hear ya, got 3 kids that HAVE TO BE SEPERATED, else they beat each other up during the travels. Also tow a travel trailer, so need the power. I've got a VCP system also which helps keep the kids happy. What else can we do but suck it up? Doesn't make sense to trade my 01 Ex for an 05 Expedition and go and finance probably $20K to get 1-4 mpg increase.

For the Ex owners reporting 16-17mpg's, you must not either have 4x4 or the 4.30 differential correct? That's what I have and I have never seen more than 14 mpg's.

16-17 MPG averages are going to be from Diesel-powered Excursions.

Get us on the freeway non-towing at 60-65 MPH and we'll hold down 20+ MPG on pump diesel.

Did you get those rotor studs in Eric?

Being single & owning the EX for completely selfish reasons ( ) I'm gonna hold on to mine for a long, long time. It's my hobby truck and I don't drive her much....I have a Harley for the commuting.
Most of my EX expenses are due to upgrades and not gasoline....boy, you sure can dump a bunch of money into these babies, can't you?

You won't see much over 1 mpg.

My 03 Expy (former) got 14 highway . (Well, we don't have highways here just two lane 55 mph country roads). My 05 Excursion gets the same. My lightly modded 00 woulda got better.

My 05 F-150 with the 3V only averages 15 and it is probably lighter than an 05 Expy.

This story will probably hit all the wire services later today (Wednesday) but it is fuel for thought:

From NY NEWSDAY: "Consumer Reports magazine said gas mileage in its tests of 303 cars and trucks was lower than U.S. government ratings for 90 percent of the vehicles, including gasoline-electric hybrids touted for fuel efficiency.

The shortfalls "included most makes and models" among the 2000 to 2006 vehicles it tested, Consumer Reports said in its October issue. For some, actual fuel efficiency was 35 percent to 50 percent lower than the Environmental Protection Agency ratings, according to the magazine, published by Consumers Union of Yonkers."

Starts you thinking that EX owners are getting the shaft by being told their vehicles are bad.

Nothing like stating the obvious.... Huh
Suprised the Senate didn't spend $100K or $200K to "derive" at that obvious "discovery"
