Obviously my first post, but fairly well aquainted with the EX. I have owned 5 of them, all 2000 and 2001, and V10's. I just purchased a 2003 EX Limited 4x4 6.0 diesel with 95k miles and it needs new tires.

My problem is that most of these vehicles do not track straight. I have put new tires on four of them and just haven't found the right tire to buy. I currently have 265's on and that just doesn't look right for the vehicle. So I would at least like to upgrade to 285's on my stock rims. GIVE ME A TIRE THAT HELPS THE EX FEEL AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS!!!!!!!

Any recommendations?

We love our Michelin LTX 285's which we just purchased last July that was replacing the BFG TKO's that we kept having probs with.

The Michelins are very quiet, smooth ride they have excellent traction on wet, snow covered roads

I pitch my recommendation for the Michelin LTX tires

Gotta agree with CHP....those Michelins in the 285-16 size have been wonderful for me....95% on the highway, and a little off road driving from time to time.

Very quiet, smooth and straight tracking for me, even at the occasional 95 MPH that I have done. Mostly 70 - 80 MPH on higway trips. Does great on dry or wet pavement.

Still have the 2 on the front going strong with 70+K miles and looks like half tread life or more still remaining. The 2 rear ones went out with sidewall punctures on an off-road trip in rugged Big Bend country a few months ago. Those creosote bushes don't have any thorns but they snap off near the ground when driven over and readily slide into the sidewall, as they did to mine and left me with 2 flats at the same time, luckily I had a plug kit and bike pump. I did sidewall plug patches and drove 60 miles to Alpine to buy 2 tires to get me home to FTW ad they did good even with sidewall plugs at 60 mph max but probably not too safe, they say.

Excellent tires that seem to last forever....would buy them again in a heatbeat. Got a set of 4 from Discount Tire for a cash deal of $800, incl mounting and balancing,etc....but no road hazard warrantee at that price.

I just installed the Pirrelli Scorpion ATR 285s on my 02 PSD Ex. and have been very happy with the tracking improvements. Check them out at TheTireRack.com. They are the highest rated AT Tires that they sell. My only complant is that they are about an inch more narrow than most of the 285s on the market. They are also an LT tire wich makes them tough but also heavy. They are extremely quiet and ride much better than the Pro Comp AT 285s that they replaced. Good luck with your selection.

Thanks for the responses so far..

I have now added the Michelin LTX's to my list following your suggetions. Here is the list of potential tires so far.

Nitto (heard great things and consumer reports had them as "best bang for your dollar")
Dueler Revos (past Forums here turned me on to them)
Michelin LTX ( ChpMustang and Bigfoot567 are convincing sources)

Those are basically the most popular three tires for Excursion owners,I wanted the Nittos while in Phoneix but they were Out of stock so the Michelins went on
