This looks right, but it wouldn't grip.  Either it's the wrong size, or the teeth are mushroomed.

The ground-down tips of the pliers fit in the round holes, making it easy to spin the nut off.

That should last.  I'll oil the lip before sliding the hub back onto the spindle.

Before putting the hub back on, I oiled the seal and every surface it will touch during assembly.

This is expensive, but worth it.  The axle flange bolts are torqued to 150 Nm (110 lb-ft).
