About the 2000–2005 Ford Excursion

A Ford Excursion from the generation archive from the generation archive

The 2000–2005 Ford Excursion was Ford's full-size SUV heavyweight, and the builds shared here show everything from blacked-out daily drivers parked in driveways to lifted rigs sporting FX4 Off-Road badging and upgraded suspension components underneath. You'll find interior shots highlighting tan leather cabins with aftermarket speaker upgrades, nighttime lighting setups, towing duties with camper trailers, and snow-covered lots proving these Excursions earn their keep year-round.

The story

Duracell Batteries
New Alternator
Front Anti-sway Bar

Custom A/V setup: Pioneer AVH-P3200 DVD Headunit with 6.2" display; Driver & Front passenger seat 7" Display units; 3rd row ceiling mounted DVD player with 15" display.

I spent 8 months looking for a 7.3L based on my buddies advice for a "bulletproof" diesel in an SUV that could tow the most. I ended up flying to Houston to purchase her. She cost me a little more than I wanted to spend, but in the end she has been worth it! We use her to tow a 35' travel trailer and have not had any issues with that.
The biggest issues we have had with her revolve around alternators. We've gone through two of them in the last 3 years, one on a long trip from AZ to CO in early December. Complete charging system replacement (alternator, belts) in 2012. The replacement alternator died in 2014 (ended up being a manufacturer's defect). So far, everything has held up.
I'm will be upgrading to a new thermostat, cold-air intake kit, after-market shocks, bigger differential covers, coolant system filter, bigger exhaust, etc., etc. to truly make it "bulletproof". The idea is to be able to have my grandchildren use it! — rbrich72
