The 2002 BMW 5 Series carried the facelifted E39 range that had gained M54 six-cylinder engines and lighted corona ring headlights for 2001. The lineup ran from the 184 horsepower 525i through the 225 horsepower 530i to the 290 horsepower 540i, with 525i and 540i Sport Wagons also offered. The M5 topped the range with a 4.9-liter S62 V8 rated at 394 horsepower, sold only with a six-speed manual.
