BMW Z3

1996 BMW Z3 Specs & Photos

The 1996 BMW Z3 was the first model year of the E36/7 roadster, a two-seat, rear-wheel-drive convertible and the first BMW built entirely outside Germany, at the company's Spartanburg, South Carolina plant (roadster production began in September 1995). US cars used the M44 1.9L inline-four rated at 138 hp (net) at 6000 rpm and 133 lb-ft of torque, paired with a standard five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic. As the launch year, it offered only the four-cylinder engine and the soft-top body; the 2.8L inline-six did not arrive until 1997.
