The 1997 Buick Century was a full redesign that moved the nameplate from the A-body to the front-wheel-drive GM W-body platform shared with the Buick Regal, and it dropped the station wagon to become a four-door sedan only. A single engine was offered, the 3.1-liter (3100) V6 rated at 160 hp (net), paired with a four-speed automatic transaxle. It launched in Custom and Limited trim levels. This 1997 model marked the start of the W-body Century generation, which continued through 2005.
