The 1986 Chevrolet Celebrity is a mid-size car built on GM's front-wheel-drive A-body platform, sharing its structure with the Buick Century, Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, and Pontiac 6000. It was offered as a two-door coupe, four-door sedan, and five-door station wagon, with a base 2.5 L (151 cu in) Iron Duke inline-four using throttle-body fuel injection and an optional 2.8 L (173 cu in) V6; the high-output fuel-injected version of that V6 was rated at 125 hp for 1986. A three-speed automatic was the standard transmission. 1986 was the last year the carbureted 2.8 L V6 was offered, and the sport-tuned Eurosport package remained available.
