Chevrolet Chevette

1976 Chevrolet Chevette Specs & Photos

The 1976 Chevrolet Chevette was the debut model year of Chevrolet's rear-wheel-drive subcompact, built on GM's global T-body platform and introduced in October 1975. For 1976 it was offered only as a 2-door hatchback (in Scooter, base, Sport, and Rally trims), powered by a 1.4 L (85 cu in) OHC inline-four rated at 52 hp (SAE net) or an optional 1.6 L (98 cu in) four rated at 60 hp (net). A 4-speed manual was standard and a 3-speed automatic was optional. As the first-year car, the 1976 Chevette predated the 4-door hatchback body that Chevrolet added for 1978.
