The 1979 Chevrolet Chevette was a mid-cycle year of the rear-wheel-drive T-body subcompact, offered as a 2-door hatchback coupe and a 4-door hatchback sedan (the four-door had been added for 1978). Power came from a 1.6 L (98 cu in) OHC inline-four rated at 70 hp (SAE net), with a standard 4-speed manual or an optional TH-180 3-speed automatic. For 1979, a Holley two-barrel carburetor became standard across the range. The four-door hatchback rode a 97.3 inch wheelbase.
