The 1996 Ford Aspire dropped the sporty SE trim after 1995, leaving a single trim in three- and five-door hatchback bodies. The 63 horsepower 1.3-liter four continued with the standard five-speed manual or optional three-speed automatic, and dual airbags remained standard. Kia built the Aspire alongside its own Avella, the same basic design sold under Kia badges outside North America.
