The 1956 Ford Crown Victoria was the second and final model year of the Fairlane-series two-door hardtop with the stainless tiara roof band. For 1956 Ford switched the line to a 12-volt electrical system and offered the Lifeguard safety package, which added a deep-dish steering wheel, a padded dashboard, and optional seat belts. Engine choices ran from the 223 cu in (3.7L) inline-six to the 292 cu in (4.8L) Y-block V8 rated about 200 gross hp and the top 312 cu in (5.1L) Thunderbird Special Y-block V8, which used a four-barrel carburetor to make about 225 gross hp. Production fell sharply from 1955, with roughly 9,200 Crown Victorias and about 600 Skyliners built before the model was dropped.
