The 1997 Ford Crown Victoria was the final year of the original aero generation before the 1998 update revised the rear suspension and brakes. It used the 4.6L SOHC modular V8, rated about 190 horsepower with single exhaust and about 210 horsepower with the dual-exhaust high-output tune, paired with the 4R70W four-speed automatic. The car remained a four-door sedan on the body-on-frame Panther platform with recirculating-ball steering.
