The 1971 Ford F-350 was a carryover year within the fifth-generation F-series (1967-1972), a one-ton truck sold as a chassis cab, stake, and pickup. Its engines were the 240 cu in (3.9L) and 300 cu in (4.9L) inline-sixes and the FE-family V8s, the 360 cu in (5.9L) rated at 215 hp gross and the 390 cu in (6.4L) at 255 hp gross (gross figures, before the 1972 switch to net ratings). Three-speed and four-speed manual transmissions were offered. The 360 and 390 FE V8s had replaced the earlier 352 for 1968 and continued through this generation.
