The 1968 Ford Fairlane was fully restyled and gained the Torino as its upscale companion, moving Fairlane and Fairlane 500 to the value end of Ford's intermediate line. A fastback hardtop joined the Fairlane 500 range, and the 302 replaced the four-barrel 289 in the small-block lineup. In April 1968 the 428 Cobra Jet, rated at 335 hp gross, reached the order sheet.
