The 1959 Ford Galaxie arrived partway through the model year as the new top trim of Ford's full-size line, positioned above the Fairlane 500 and carrying a squared, Thunderbird-style roofline. Body styles included two- and four-door sedans, the Club Victoria two-door and Town Victoria four-door hardtops, the Sunliner convertible, and the Skyliner retractable hardtop, which moved into the Galaxie series for 1959. Engine choices ran from a 223 cu in inline-six (145 gross hp) up through the 292 cu in Y-block V8 (200 gross hp) to the top 352 cu in FE V8 (300 gross hp). Transmissions offered were a three-speed manual, three-speed with overdrive, and the two-speed Ford-O-Matic and three-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatics.
