The 1982 Ford Thunderbird was the final year of the eighth-generation Fox-platform notchback coupe. The standard engine remained the 200 cubic inch (3.3L) inline-six rated at about 87 SAE net horsepower, with a new optional 232 cubic inch (3.8L) Essex V6 rated at about 112 SAE net horsepower and a 255 cubic inch (4.2L) V8 also optional. It was the lowest-volume Thunderbird generation before the aerodynamic 1983 redesign.
