The 1968 Ford Torino was introduced as the premium top sub-series of the redesigned Ford Fairlane, built on Ford's intermediate unibody platform. It was offered as a two-door hardtop, a two-door SportsRoof fastback, a four-door sedan, and a station wagon, with the sporty Torino GT available as a fastback or convertible. Engine choices ran from a 200 cu in (3.3L) inline-six through the 302 cu in (4.9L) small-block V8 to the 390 cu in (6.4L) big-block, and the 428 cu in (7.0L) Cobra Jet V8 arrived at mid-year in fewer than 1,000 cars. Transmissions included three-speed and four-speed manuals and the three-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic, with outputs quoted as gross horsepower.
