The 1970 Ford Torino launched the second generation, a longer, lower, and wider redesign that was named Motor Trend Car of the Year. Body styles included a two-door hardtop, a two-door SportsRoof fastback, four-door hardtop and sedan variants, a station wagon, and a GT convertible. The new 351 cu in (5.8L) Cleveland V8 debuted for 1970, and the Torino Cobra offered the 429 cu in (7.0L) big-block as the 360 hp Thunder Jet, the 370 hp Cobra Jet, or the 375 hp Super Cobra Jet, all quoted in gross horsepower. Three-speed and four-speed manuals and the SelectShift Cruise-O-Matic automatic were available.
