2004 Mazda RX-8 Specs & Photos
The 2004 Mazda RX-8 launched the model's single SE3P generation in North America, powered by the naturally aspirated Renesis 13B-MSP twin-rotor Wankel engine displacing 1.3 liters (1,308 cc). Buyers chose a 6-speed manual rated at 238 hp (net) at 8,500 rpm with 159 lb-ft at 5,500 rpm, or a 4-speed automatic rated at 197 hp, both driving the rear wheels. The body is a four-seat coupe with rear-hinged freestyle rear doors and no fixed B-pillar, using a front-engine layout with near 50:50 weight distribution. As the debut model year, it established the configuration that carried through 2011 with only detail revisions.
