POP UP-FRONT With a blown 350 Chev and beefy drivetrain to match, Graham Carter wanted a suitable front end with comfort. agility, and safety Its not easy in a Ford Pop. as it's hard to get those front tyres tucked inside the little fenders, and the comfort-agility ratio is difficult with such a short wheelbased, high car. Graham's answer was in a 1969 LC Torana front end. This was bought complete with disc brakes, steering. and rear braces carrying the lower suspension arms' struts. The X-member had 13 centimetres removed from its centre (SJ/a inches) and the front-mounted rack & pinion had an identical 13cm shortened from its body to keep the tie~rods at original lengths, avoiding wrong geometry and bump-steer. The rear 3/: of the Pop chassis was boxed, and the 3 X 2" RHS steel custom front chassis section got an 8/2-inch kickup (or 12-inch teem-bottom) at a point 12-inches forward of the windscreen drop-point. This frontal chassis is parallel, not tapered, and measures 25-inches outside-tooutside.
