Pontiac Accelerator Linkage Diagram – 400 & 428 4-BBL Throttle Assembly

This document is Figure 6B-6, "Accelerator Linkage – Pontiac," an exploded parts diagram from a Pontiac service manual showing the accelerator (throttle) linkage assembly. The main illustration depicts the linkage for all engines, with the 400 4-BBL carburetor version shown, while an inset at the upper right shows the differing components for the 428 4-BBL carb engine. Labeled components include the dash panel, the accelerator pedal, the switch assembly with actuating plunger shaft, the throttle control cross shaft bracket (part of the engine assembly), a bracket that is part of the engine assembly, and the stud-carburetor extension (part of the engine assembly). Two adjustment/installation notes are provided: (1) with the carburetor set at hot idle speed position and the rod assembly unhooked from the carburetor so the return spring holds the shaft and stud assembly in the forward position, adjust the rod assembly length 5 turns longer than the distance between the attaching ball studs; (2) the accelerator pedal lever must be installed above the switch actuating plunger shaft, and after installing the switch assembly, the plunger must be fully depressed in the direction of arrow "A" to ensure proper setting, then the accelerator pedal fully depressed. Useful for anyone repairing or adjusting Pontiac accelerator linkage on 400/428 4-barrel engines.
