This is what I wound up doing with the front grille. It was originally that plastic-chrome looking stuff, but had chips and flaking. I sanded the whole thing down and put two coats of primer on it--one coat of filler primer to fill in the sanding marks that 'may' have been left, and one coat of primer/sealer (probably not necessary on plastic). Then I painted it with metallic hammer paint, and put 3 layers of clear coat over the top of that for protection.
While the grill turned out great quality wise, I'm not happy with the flake that was in the paint. The flake is way to large for my taste, and in the pic shows up as texture. In person it doesn't look that bad, but It caused me to dub the grille "Lady Glittersparkles". If you have kids, you know where this name comes from.
