Got the vertical seams alongside the tailgate fully welded. I did it as a series of spot welds and finally controlled the heat well enough for no burn-through. I decided to not do a final pass of prettier welds, since structurally it should be way more than sufficient now, and it'll never be visible. No point pushing my burn-through luck!
