timingcvrgskt58l.jpg 5.8L Timing Cover Gasket Installation
IF THE IMAGE IS TOO SMALL, click it.

Because of small coolant leaks from the water pump & timing cover gaskets, and oil from pan gasket, I pulled this engine (which was running perfectly) to clean & reseal it. One of the long WP bolts broke due to corrosion from coolant leaking into its journals. The new TC gasket was installed without added sealant (Permatex 20539) other than around the 2 coolant journals only. Since the bolts are not normally exposed to coolant, they don't need any additional sealant (orange pointers). Adding it would only cause them to corrode again, masking leaks until they do more damage.
