After a few successful test-drives, I decided to replace the leaking CV shaft that had slung progressively more grease in the RHF wheelwell, and ordered a reman. But they sent the wrong one, and I didn't feel like continuing to wait. After pulling & cleaning the leaky shaft, I couldn't find any hole or tear in the boot, so I took it apart & looked closer. Apparently, the plastic spacer just got old & either shrunk or changed shape from the heat cycles. Whatever it was, all it needed was fresh grease, and a little RightStuff sealant between the spacer, the CV cup, and the boot.
