Jay Brown's 2005 Ford GT, a class winner, captured on the track.
ROGERS, MN, 05 FORD GT We were really looking forward to drooling on Jay Browns 69 Mach 1 again this year [it also was part ofthe HOT R00 Top 10 cars for 2006], but he gave up on it when he had hideous trac- tion problems after stepping up the power. His backup car was nothing to sneeze at: a brand- new Ford GT with less than 1,000 miles on the clock. Jay made a ton of passes that ranged from 12.203to 11.905, butwhen histimeslips were averaged, it came out to a perfect 12.00000 seconds. Man, how do you do that? By making a ton of passes on the last day in search ofthe perfect number. Guys said we should have given Jay 3 lap-time award. Tara drove the big 95 Grand Marquis to a 12.0006? average, makingthe casual observer think its a 4.6Lwith a blower. In fact, its got a V-10 truck engine with a pair ofturbos. Sean did an ingeniousjob of mountingthe turbos, tucking them up underthe floorpan, and it works really well. Tara also made it into the bracket race on the last day, and the car is a true daily driver, too. Power combo: Its a stock 6.8L V-10 from a Super Duty truck boosted with a pair of remote-mount turbos. Working with Diesel Power magazines David Kennedy, the oil-burner ran as quick as 11.84!
