My plan for a transmission cooler; plagiarized from Fireguy and changed to do what I’m looking for.
I want to keep the stock in-radiator-cooler because it gets cold where I live and I want it to get up to temperature while my truck warms up and not drive it around ice-cold and wait for friction to warm it to operating temperature.
Here’s the plan: ATF flows out of the trans into the rad. cooler. Then it flows into Thermostat (#1060). From here one of two things will happen. If the ATF is less than 180°F it goes to the filter (with attached temp gauge) and then back to the trans. If the ATF is greater than 180°F, it goes through the trans cooler (#LPD4590) then to the filter (#1791 , #2640) and then to the trans.
I will have two temperature sensors because, well, I want to. One will be in place of a plug on the side of my E4OD and measure the hot fluid in the tranny. The other will be in the filter mount and will measure the effectiveness of my cooling system. I will have a two-way switch so I can switch between senders on a single Temp Gauge (#2640).
