Mojave National Preserve Legendary Crossing In the 18605, the Allojave Road was a major route between California and the Arizona territories You can see it crossing the Piute Valley before you. Connecting Piute Springs to Fort Mojave on the Colorado River. Behind you to the west, the route continues from spring to spring. tracing its way across the Mojave Desert to population centers near Los Angeles. Rocks piled along the Mojave Road on Piute Hill, a mile west of here. This section is so rough that it was abandoned by vehicle K traffic long ago. Modern Moiave Road travelers detour through a pass a few miles to the south. Abandoned by modern travelers but open to fourwheel drive enthusiasts a trip across the Mojave Road provides a glimpse into the rigors of early travel.
