I cut the covers with a generous edge, marked the position of the cardboard on them with a black marker, and then sprayed the foam with 3M General Trim Adhesive #08088. I also sprayed the cardboard's outer faces & let them get tacky before laying the cardboard into place & mashing it down onto the fabric.
