22. Pull out the mixture control (choke) until the arrow (7) marked on the cam is positioned under the fast idle adjusting screw (8) of each carburetter. 23,. Using the balancing meter to ensure equal adjustment, turn the fast idle adjusting screws to give the correct fast idle speed (see GENERAL DATA). Stop the engine. 24. Ret the air cleaners. TRANSMISSION . EAnBox " Checking OVERDRIVE Draining Sump filter Relief valve filter Filling Fly. 1 Fig. I To gain access to the gearbox combined oil ller and dipstick (1), lift the carpet on the right-hand side of the gearbox cover at the rear of the control console and remove the rubber plug (2). Clean around the dipstick before removing it. The oil level must be maintained at the HIGH' mark on the dipstick. Fig. 7 Remove the plug (3) to drain the oil from the gearbox and overdrive unit. Drain the gearbox and overdrive unit. Clean the sump cover and its surroundings. Remove the cover securing screws, withdraw the cover (4) and the lter (5). Clean all metallic particles from the two magnets tted to the inside of the cover, wash the cover and lter in gasoline. Ret the lter and cover. Remove the plug and the seal (6); withdraw the relief valve approximately i in. and remove the lter (7). Wash the lter, plug and seal in gasoline. Fit the lter to the relief valve, push the valve fully home and ret the plug and seal. Fill the gearbox and overdrive unit through the combined oil ller (1) with the correct quantity (see GENERAL DATA) of one of the recommended oils. Run the car for a short distance, allow it to stand for a few minutes, then re-check the level with the dipstick. Anti-friction additives must not be used in the gearbox or overdrive. R EA R AXLE Checking Fig. 2 A combined oil ller and level plug (1) is l ated on the rear of the axle. The oil level must be maintained at the bottom 0 the plug aperture; ensure that the car is standing level when checking. After topping up the oil level, allow sufcient time for any surplus oil which may have been added to run out of the aperture before replacing the plug. Do not drain the rear axle when the After-sales Service is carried out. PROPELLER SHAFT Lubrication Fig. 3 Fig. 2 A nipple (l) is provided at the front end of the propeller shaft for lubricating the sliding yoke. To lubricate, give three or four strokes of a gun lled with a recommended grease. Fly. 3 Wheel alignment Fig. 1 Lubrication Fly. 2 Fly. 1 STEERING/SUSPENSION m Incorrect wheel alignment can cause excessive and uneven tyre wear. The front wheels must be set so that the distance A is 1% in. to gig in. (toe in) less than the distance B. Wheel alignment requires the iise of a special gauge and this work should be entrusted to your Distributor or Dealer. The three lubricating nipples (arrowed) on each of the swivel pins should be charged periodically with one of the recommended greases.
