When I noticed that the airflow & temperature didn't respond to the dash controls, I found that the blend door had come off its shaft, and the servo gear (lower L pic) had split, releasing it from its shaft.

I worked the door back into place just by reaching into the dash above & forward from the servo, and replaced the servo with a Dorman LLT.

Later, I added a small clip to keep the shaft from sliding out again.
