The 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis closed out the full-size, pre-downsizing Marquis line as its flagship trim. For 1979 Mercury moved the Marquis to the smaller, lighter Panther platform, making 1978 the last year for the truly full-size body and its big-block V8 options.
