The 1996 Subaru Impreza carried the first-generation GC sedan, coupe, and wagon forward with the 110 horsepower 1.8-liter EJ18 and 135 horsepower 2.2-liter EJ22 flat-fours. It was the last model year Americans could order a front-wheel-drive Impreza, as Subaru made all-wheel drive standard across its entire US lineup for 1997. The Outback Sport wagon returned with its two-tone paint and standard all-wheel drive.
