The 2017 Toyota 4Runner is a fifth-generation model built on the N280 platform (2010-2024), a carryover year following the generation's 2014 exterior refresh. Its sole powertrain was the 4.0L 1GR-FE V6 producing 270 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 278 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. For 2017 the former Trail and Trail Premium grades were renamed TRD Off-Road and TRD Off-Road Premium, joining SR5, SR5 Premium, Limited, and the Bilstein-equipped TRD Pro. The 4Runner was built only as a four-door body-on-frame SUV.
