The 1995 Toyota Hilux ended an era in the United States, where the truck had been sold as the Toyota Pickup ever since the Hilux name was dropped from American marketing after 1975. Toyota replaced it with the Tacoma, introduced in February 1995 and engineered specifically for North American buyers. It was also the final US year for the long-serving 22R-E 2.4-liter four, while the Hilux nameplate continued overseas and remains in production today.
