The 1986 Toyota MR2 carried the first-generation AW11 into its second US model year with the 112-horsepower 4A-GE unchanged. A five-speed manual transmission was standard and a four-speed automatic was optional. In Japan, Toyota added a supercharged 4A-GZE version in 1986, but that engine did not reach the US until the 1988 model year.
