The 1991 Toyota MR2 launched the second-generation SW20 in the United States after a one-year gap, as Toyota sold no 1990 MR2 in the US. Base cars used a 2.2-liter 5S-FE four rated at 130 horsepower, while the Turbo carried a 2.0-liter 3S-GTE rated at 200 horsepower. The Turbo was sold only with a five-speed manual transmission.
