Dennis - Regarding the installation of a Hellwig-Excursion rear anti-swaybar on an F250, I can't answer for certain if it will work ... but it does sound like a reasonable idea. Before buying one, and since you already have one on hand (or under-X), why not take the bar off your X and try it on the F250? Then report back for all of us to hear. If successful, you may also wish to post similar info on the SD truck portions of various forums. And forget all that talk about the F250 being lighter. It is, but only when NOT loaded. The F250's payload capacity is a good deal higher than the X. Sorry, but I don't have exact values at hand .... but you can look them up on the Ford website.

Landyot, Not a bad idea, My time has been more valuable to me than money lately, been spending alot to save time for with kids & wife. But they "kids" have been great when handing me tools and such, maybe it could be good family time to perform the swap! It may take a bit before time permits, but I'll be sure to share the details!

LANDYOT, true, the F250 has more payload than the X. But the GVWR of a 4X4 CC F250 is 8800 pounds, GVWR of the X is 9200 pounds. So, empty or loaded to factory max the X is carring more weight.

Roger,
Yep you are right, X 9,200 GVWR ----------------------------------- F250 8,800 GVWR
But ------------------------ 4,700 GAWR Front ------------------------------------ 5,200 GAWR Front
But ------------------------ 5,250 GAWR Rear ------------------------------------- 6,084 GAWR Rear

Also F350 uses axles & springs with same rating as 250, but some 250's come with load range D vs E tires. F250 has 2" blocks & F350 has 4" blocks on rear axles. Ford gives 350 higher GVWR due to tires and the blocks which give more height / room for the inceased load before it bottoms out.

X, 250 & 350 all have GCWR of 20,000 lbs.

These # are off of my X & F250
My question is why does the truck have a Higher Axle rating on the F250 CC 4x4 PSD Than the X 4x4 PSD? Why did Ford cheap out on the axles when the X can haul just as much overall weight?

My question would be why is the F250's GVWR less than the Excursion's when the F250 has the higher-rated axles? The statement about "X, 250 & 350 all have GCWR of 20,000 lbs." would make one think the brakes are rated the same among all three models. So why is the F250's GVWR less?

Typographical errors could be one reason. I have found codes on my door jamb label that did not agree with the factory manual's description of equipment installed on my X (one code says I'm supposed to have 6-CD changer AND cassette, but no cassette player installed). I have also found a few errors in the factory service manuals, particularly in the electrical book.

If I had to guess, I would say that they think the Excursion is far less likely to ever carry that weight, whereas the F250 will likely see more hauling useage. The Excursion is more of a towing vehicle than a hauling vehicle.

Of course, like most of my opinions, this could be way off base.

Birdman - Don't get too attached to them 'cause they're the ugly ducklings ... but they work. Ford makes a very pretty cup-washer, but the best I could do was $3.15 each for them. I made the ones in your hand for 29-cents each. BTW, the center hole in the Ford washer was also too large, and it would not "bottom out" consistently against the copper bushing-sleeve. Hopefully, if and when I can convert the large rear bushings on future kits to polyurethane pieces, I can go back to flat washers, and they'll be hardened flat washers.

Keep me updated Ken!!!!! I am in the process of getting some quotes for some custom springs for the rear. I got the computer re-cailbrated for the larger tires and the tranny shifts great now. I cant wait to tow and see how the change helps in towing. I am pretty happy with the X's stance. I just need to get a little more movement in the rear suspension. First i will swap the bilsteins out...just for a week or so.

It may well fit however if you have a ford 18MM bar on your 250 Why not just replace it with the Ford 30MM bar used on some 350s?

I know that the mounts are further out on the Helwig but it is the attaching point at the frame that counts the most and they are the same. Putting the ford bar on would be a quick replacement since it uses all the same mounts and comes with the new bushings. I have a 30MM ford bar on my Excursion and have driven an Excursion with a helwig and could not tell the difference as far as sway.. I know the Helwig is slightly bigger in Dia. by the spec but some have said it is less than the 1.25. BTW the 30MM bar cost me less than $50.00 at the dealer and it will bolt right on.
