The 1994 BMW 5 Series brought V8 power to the United States E34 range with two new M60 engines: a 3.0-liter rated at 215 horsepower in the 530i and a 4.0-liter rated at 282 horsepower in the 540i. The 525i continued with the 2.5-liter M50 six, rated at 189 horsepower with VANOS variable valve timing. A 530i Touring wagon joined the US line for 1994, giving BMW its first V8-powered wagon in America.
