The 2005 Chevrolet Colorado was a carryover year for the first-generation Colorado (GMT355 platform), continuing with the 2.8L inline-four rated at 175 hp and the 3.5L inline-five rated at 220 hp introduced for 2004. Regular cab, extended cab, and crew cab body styles remained available in rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. The larger 2.9L four and 3.7L five that later powered this generation had not yet been introduced.
