The 1970 Dodge Dart replaced its base 170 cubic inch Slant Six with a new 198 cubic inch version rated at 125 horsepower gross, joining the 145 horsepower 225 six, the 230 horsepower 318 V8, and the 275 horsepower 340. The Swinger 340 two-door hardtop carried the performance banner after the GTS was dropped following 1969, while Swinger and Dart Custom covered the volume trims. The convertible did not return for 1970, leaving hardtops and sedans as the only body styles.
