The 2013 Ford Explorer added the Explorer Sport, the performance trim powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 rated at 365 horsepower. The base 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 and the turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four continued. The Ford Police Interceptor Utility, the law-enforcement version of the Explorer, also arrived for the 2013 model year. The 2013 Explorer remained a three-row unibody crossover on the front-drive-based D4 platform, with front-wheel drive standard and all-wheel drive optional.
