The 1978 Ford F-150 brought rectangular headlamps to the higher trims (Ranger, Ranger XLT, and the newly added Ranger Lariat) while the base Custom kept round lamps. Four-wheel drive became available on the SuperCab body for 1978. The 300-cubic-inch (4.9L) inline-six remained standard, with the 302, 351M, 400, and 460 V8s carried over.
