The 1981 Ford F-250 carried minor changes and continued the Bullnose truck with the 300 inline-six base engine, the 302 V8, and the 351M and 400 big-blocks. The 1981 F-250 4x4 used the Twin-Traction Beam independent front suspension introduced for 1980, with a Dana 44HD on lighter trucks and a Dana 50 on the heavy-duty F-250.
