The 1983 Ford F-350 introduced the 6.9L IDI diesel V8, built by International Harvester, as the first factory diesel offered in the F-Series. The indirect-injection engine ran without a turbocharger and stayed in the lineup through 1987. The 460 V8 also returned to the one-ton the same year after a three-year absence.
